FAQs
-
I currently accept payment through credit and credit-debit card that is automatically charged to the credit card on file. Please note: payment is due at the end of each session and an official receipt will be issued to you via email upon payment. A session must be paid for before the next session is booked.
-
Many insurance companies provide benefits for counselling and psychotherapy. Please inquire directly with your benefits provider to inquire if they cover counselling/psychotherapy sessions with a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC), as designated by and registered with, the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada (also known as - ACCT).
You may want to inquire about the benefit amount that is covered, as well as deductibles, annual maximums and reimbursement procedures.
-
If your benefits provider is coordinated with Telus eHealth then I might be able to assist with direct billing. In all other cases I will issue you an official receipt for the session and you can submit the receipt to your benefits provider for reimbursement.

Please inform me as soon as possible if you need to cancel an appointment. A late cancellation or missed appointment leaves a gap in my schedule that could have been filled by another client. For this reason, I require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to appointment time. If an appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of the session time, or you do not show up for an appointment I will charge $75.00 to the credit card on file. Sickness and emergencies are exempted at my discretion.

The free consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and get to know one another. You will have an opportunity to share with me about the areas you want to work on in counselling and your goals. I will share my approach with you and answer any questions you might have. This gives you an opportunity to assess the energetic and therapeutic ‘fit’ of working together. It is important to choose a counsellor that feels right for you. Research shows that a positive fit between counsellor and client makes a significant difference in treatment outcomes.

Occasionally I am available Saturday mornings between 9AM and 12Noon PST. These days may or may not show up in my Jane calendar so I encourage you to ask about days and dates you are curious about.
-
Not very frequently. This would be based on scheduling availability and a case by case situation. We certainly can talk about it.

You will find that most therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. I choose to provide a single session length of 75 minutes. Based on experience with past and current clients, this slightly longer session allows more room for deeper exploration and processing. Some clients might even prefer a longer session. If that’s the case, we can arrange to add on 15 minute increments based on your pre-arranged request.
-
During a first session, we will unpack what is bringing you in for counselling and I will inquire about your goals for therapy. I will ask open-ended questions to learn more about you and we will explore the areas that feel most pertinent to you. This involves exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We will also explore any background information or history you would like to share with me.
Often, with first sessions I do a lot of listening. This may the first time in a long time, that you have been able to get stuff out. This is the beginning of a process of getting to know each other, and me getting to know your story.

This is completely up to you and it will all depend on the progress that you feel you are making and the needs that you have for counselling. It will also depend on your budget. I often suggest that it takes 4 to 6 sessions to really get a sense of momentum and possibility opening up. These initial sessions ideally take place every 1 to 2 weeks, and then we can reassess about what feels right for you. However, you are always in charge of how the therapeutic relationship progresses, pauses or stops. Some clients continue for a long time on a regularity that works for them (ie: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly), while others simply ‘check in’ sporadically when they need a ‘check up’. You are in charge!
-
Whether it is individual, couples, family or group therapy, it is all an unfolding process that requires a commitment of time, energy, and effort on both the part of the counsellor and the client(s). The more effort a client makes to practice new skills in their daily life, the more likely a client will be to experience a reduction in symptoms, positive transformation in relationship with self and others and overall feelings of improved well-being.
There is no predictable time frame for change. Change…takes time…takes effort…takes compassion…takes patience…and change takes courage. You are courageous for being here!
-
Yes, I do. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots within my client roster that shifts between being full and some availability. Please reach out through the contact form or email me to learn more about sliding scale options, openings or waiting lists.
